Outlook Backup Assistant
FAQs - Frequently Asked Questions
Here you will find a list of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) and our answers/suggestions to these questions:- After importing an E-mail account to a new computer should I enter the associated passwords again? How does it work?
- Inspite of importing all the backup data correctly, the data (e.g. the E-mail account) is not visible in Outlook Express. What happened to the data?
- How can I insert PST-data files into Outlook?
- What exactly is backed up in the PST-data files?
The passwords from your E-mail accounts are encrypted and stored in the data registry of Windows. This encryption depends on the Windows version that you are using and also on the PC that is being used.
On importing your account to a new PC, if the windows registry does not decrypt the password correctly then the passwords must be entered again.
This is done deliberately, so that a third party does not gain access to your account data and hence misuse it.
As the name explicitly suggests, the software "Outlook Backup Assistant" is a program for creation of backups. A data backup reflects the state of the system at a certain given time. If the backed up data is restored, the previous state of the system (as stored in the backup) is re-established. A synchronization with existing data therefore, does not take place.
Outlook stores all its PST-files under its data file management system. The data file management system can be accessed in the "File/Datafile management..." menu.
All PST-files are displayed in the data file management menu. Files can be added or removed using this menu.
If you want to add a new PST-file, simply click on "Add..". In the dialog box that appears choose the folder under which the PST file is stored. Confirm your action by clicking on OK. Now the PST file will appear in the list of used PST-files of Outlook, and can now be used as usual.
All Outlook versions store a large portion of their data in files with the extension *.pst. These data files backup and store:
- E-mail folder and its corresponding E-mails
- Contacts
- Tasks
- Calendar
- Notes
All the above data are saved and managed together in a PST-file. Backup and storage of a single component of the PST-file (e.g.only the Contacts) is not possible.
